The building still gets every cubic foot of outdoor air the code requires. It just stops paying full price to condition it.

Commercial ERV performance is an installation outcome, not a purchase outcome. The system has to be sized from actual occupancy and required outdoor air rates, distributed so supply reaches where people actually are, and commissioned with measured airflow at every register. Skip the commissioning and you own a system that ventilates on paper.

Common Questions
Does an ERV replace our rooftop units?
No. The ERV handles ventilation, your existing equipment keeps handling temperature. Decoupling them is the point: the HVAC plant stops burning capacity on raw outdoor air, which extends equipment life and steadies comfort.
Can this be installed without closing our business?
Usually yes. Distribution runs above ceiling grids during evenings or weekends, and the unit tie-in gets scheduled for a closed window. The phasing is written into the scope before work starts, so you know exactly when trades are in your space.
Is our building too far away?
If it is in Virginia, North Carolina, or Maryland, probably not. Certified installers are scarce enough in this region that traveling is normal for this equipment. Send the plans and ask.
