Smart Home Electrical in Central Virginia
Smart switches, scenes, dimmers, smart outlets, automation hubs, and network closets: designed by an electrician who actually wires the house, not a tech store add-on.
Smart Done at the Wire, Not the Outlet
Smart home electrical means more than buying a smart bulb at the hardware store. A truly smart home has the right wiring behind the walls: neutrals at every switch, structured cabling to a central network closet, dedicated circuits for AV equipment, and a panel layout that makes future upgrades painless. HOLISTIQ Building Systems and Services LLC builds smart electrical systems that work the way the home owner actually lives, not the way a marketing brochure says they should.
Josh Smith approaches smart home work the same way he approaches the rest of an electrical install: with a system view. Before we mount a single switch we walk the house with the homeowner, identify where you want scene control, where you want automation, where the network closet should sit, and how the house will be used in five years (kids’ rooms changing, home office moving, EV in the garage). Then the wiring is planned to support all of it without ripping drywall later.
What makes HOLISTIQ different on smart-home work is that Josh installs the electrical, the network low-voltage, and where applicable the solar and battery systems. That means one electrician owns the panel, the smart switches, the structured wiring, the rack in the network closet, the smart thermostats, and any solar or backup-battery integration. You don’t end up with three contractors blaming each other when the smart switch in the hallway flickers because the neutral was never run during rough-in.
Most smart home installs we do fall into three patterns: a full smart-home design at new-construction or renovation time, a retrofit where we add neutrals and switches to an existing home, or a focused upgrade where one room or zone (kitchen, primary suite, theater) gets the full smart treatment. All three start with a conversation and a written scope, not a sales pitch.

Smart Switch and Dimmer Install
Lutron Caséta, Lutron RA3, Leviton Decora Smart, and similar smart switch families installed with the proper neutral wiring. We test every switch on the load it actually controls and program scenes the way you described them in the walkthrough.
Network Closets and Structured Wiring
Cat6 / Cat6A runs from a central network closet to every room, coax where useful, fiber drops for high-bandwidth zones, and a properly cooled rack location. We coordinate with your network installer or set up a basic UniFi / Eero / Orbi mesh ourselves.
Whole-Home Audio and Theater
Speaker pre-wire to ceilings, in-wall amps, dedicated 20A circuits for AV equipment, conduit runs from the rack to the projector or display, and clean termination at a structured wiring panel. We don’t do the AV calibration, but the wires are right.
Smart Lighting Scenes
Path lighting, mood scenes, vacation modes, sunrise/sunset automation, and presence-driven scenes set up via the platform you choose (Lutron, HomeKit, Home Assistant). Programming is included for the scenes you describe in the walkthrough.
Outdoor and Landscape Smart Control
Smart-controlled landscape lighting, security lighting, holiday outlets on automated circuits, smart garage door integration, and irrigation controllers wired into the smart-home stack. Outdoor work is surge-protected and weather-rated.
Future-Proofing and Pre-Wire
Even if you are not adding solar, battery, or EV charging today, HOLISTIQ pre-wires the conduit and reserves panel space so the future install is plug-and-play. As a certified solar installer, Josh designs smart electrical systems that integrate cleanly with solar and battery additions later.

01
Walkthrough and Goals
Josh walks the home or the plans with you and asks how you actually live. Where do you wish you could dim from bed? Where do scenes need to fire automatically? What rooms need the most coverage? The answers shape the wiring plan. Walkthroughs are free, take 60 to 90 minutes, and include a homework list of decisions you can make at your own pace.

02
Design and Wiring Plan
We produce a wiring plan: switch locations, circuit assignments, structured cabling runs, network closet location, and any pre-wire for future systems. The plan includes the smart-home platform we’ll use (Lutron, HomeKit, Home Assistant) and the brand of switches. You approve before we order anything.

03
Install and Programming
Wiring goes in first, then switches, then network and AV. Programming and scene setup happens last, with you in the room so the scenes are tuned the way you actually want them. Every switch and outlet is labeled in the panel directory and documented in a homeowner binder you keep.

Walkthrough and Support
Final walkthrough where Josh shows you every scene, every automation, and how to add new devices yourself. We include a 30-day check-in call to tune anything you want adjusted after living with the system. Visit our gallery for examples of completed smart-home work.
