The ERV unit contains a heat exchanger core where two air streams pass each other without mixing:

Does an ERV replace my HVAC system?

ERV ventilation dilutes indoor radon by continuously introducing fresh outdoor air. It can meaningfully reduce radon concentrations in tight homes. However, if radon levels are above 4 pCi/L, EPA guidelines recommend a dedicated sub-slab depressurization system in addition to ventilation.
