When Lynchburg Homeowners Need an Inspection

Federal Pacific and Zinsco Panels in Lynchburg

Aluminum Branch Wiring

Homes built between roughly 1965 and 1973 in Lynchburg may have aluminum branch circuit wiring (distinct from aluminum service entrance, which is common and fine). Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper, causing connections to loosen over time. That loosening creates arcing and heat at outlets and switches.

Remediation options: full rewire (expensive, invasive), CO/ALR-rated outlets and switches at every device (requires replacing every outlet, switch, and junction box connection in the home), or pigtailing with AlumiConn or COPALUM connectors (specialized repair accepted by Virginia code and by most insurance carriers).
