Distance changes the logistics, not the standard. A travel installation runs in four moves:
- Remote design. You send plans for new construction, or photos and measurements for a retrofit. Josh designs the system on paper: unit sizing, register placement, tubing routes. You get a written quote against a specific Zehnder system before anyone drives anywhere.
- Equipment ships to the site. No waiting on a van full of parts making a 300-mile round trip twice.
- One mobilization. Installation lands as a block of consecutive days, usually two to four. On new builds we coordinate the window with your general contractor so rough-in lands in the correct phase.
- Commissioning before we leave. Airflow measured and balanced at every register, all modes verified, written report in your hand. The report is the proof your system performs to spec, and on high-performance builds it is what your energy rater wants to see.
Afterward, maintenance is genuinely light. Filter swaps are a five-minute homeowner task. For anything beyond that, you call the person who designed and installed the system, which beats calling a dispatcher in any state.
Why We Would Rather Drive Than Watch a Bad Install
Josh got his Zehnder certification because he kept seeing what happens without it. An ERV that skips proper design and commissioning still ventilates, roughly, but the balance is off, rooms get missed, and the energy recovery that justified the price never materializes. The homeowner cannot see any of that. It just performs worse forever.
A certified installer who travels fixes the actual problem, which is that this equipment deserves better than the nearest available generalist. Virginia is home turf. North Carolina and Maryland are regular travel range. For anything else nearby, call and ask. The schedule decides more than the mileage does.
Can you work with our builder or architect remotely?
Yes, and it is the normal case on new construction. Design happens from drawings, coordination happens with your GC’s schedule, and our site time lands in the correct construction phase. Architects get their ventilation design intent pressure-tested before rough-in instead of after.
What if we just need to know whether our house is a candidate?
